Synopsis from the Author
Piper hasn’t even been in Westport for five minutes when she meets big, bearded sea captain Brendan, who thinks she won’t last a week outside of Beverly Hills. So what if Piper can’t do math, and the idea of sleeping in a shabby apartment with bunk beds gives her hives. How bad could it really be? She’s determined to show her stepfather—and the hot, grumpy local—that she’s more than a pretty face. Except it’s a small town and everywhere she turns, she bumps into Brendan. The fun-loving socialite and the gruff fisherman are polar opposites, but there’s an undeniable attraction simmering between them. Piper doesn’t want any distractions, especially feelings for a man who sails off into the sunset for weeks at a time. Yet as she reconnects with her past and begins to feel at home in Westport, Piper starts to wonder if the cold, glamorous life she knew is what she truly wants. LA is calling her name, but Brendan—and this town full of memories—may have already caught her heart.
Piper Bellinger is fashionable, influential, and her reputation as a wild child means the paparazzi are constantly on her heels. When too much champagne and an out-of-control rooftop party lands Piper in the slammer, her stepfather decides enough is enough. So he cuts her off, and sends Piper and her sister to learn some responsibility running their late father’s dive bar... in Washington.
Things I Loved & Things I Struggled With
Piper shines as a hilarious, entertaining, and lovable character, carrying the story effortlessly. This heroine showed charcter development as she starts to fall in love rather swiftly, but still fulfilled. I love how she speaks her mind and is not scared to be herself.
Brendan shows up as a mean grumpy man and becomes an adorable grump as he starts to fall in love with Piper.
As they begin to open up and let their walls down, they start to realize that their desire to be together is so pure and powerful that nothing could ever tear them apart. It's like their hearts are magnets, drawn irresistibly to each other, creating a bond that's unbreakable and filled with sweetness. I love the building-up attraction between them.
This was a wildly entertaining read that's as funny as it is heartwarming. Piper and Brendan's dynamic is sizzling, with unforgettable lines and intense attraction. However, there were scenes that were just told for convenience--too many unspoken truths and conflict.
What I struggled was that everything seemed to happen quickly. The enemies to friends to lovers were swiftly told as if the author just wanted to move forward as 'a part' has been told. This could have been a great opportunity to tell a more witty story that could have been a more natural falling-in-love scene.
Also, we get a glimpse of Piper's sister and Fox's characters building up in this story, too ❤︎
